Uthayam is a politically and religiously independent organization for aid. Uthayam was founded in Switzerland by the Swiss-Tamil community after the Sri Lankan east coast was struck by a tsunami following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. The name “Uthayam” derives from the Tamil word meaning “sunrise” or “beginning”.
